Sleeve Gastrectomy: This surgery removes about 80% of the stomach, leaving a tubular "sleeve" of stomach, roughly the size and shape of a banana. The surgery is usually done laparoscopically, which means the surgeon makes small incisions as opposed to one large incision.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS): This is a two-part surgery in which the first step involves performing a procedure similar to a sleeve gastrectomy. The second surgery involves connecting the end portion of the intestine to the duodenum near the stomach (duodenal switch and biliopancreatic diversion), bypassing the majority of the intestine.

Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass): This procedure involves the creation of a small pouch at the top of the stomach. This pouch is the only part of the stomach that receives food, which limits the amount you can comfortably eat and drink at one time. The small intestine is then cut a short distance below the main stomach and connected to the new pouch. Food flows directly from the pouch into this part of the intestine.

Adjustable Gastric Banding: Also known as the "lap band" or "band", this procedure involves the placement of a band around the upper part of the stomach to create a small pouch and a narrow passage into the rest of the stomach. The size of the passage can be adjusted by filling the band with sterile saline, which is injected through a port placed under the skin.
